“Rest in the Lord oh my soul,
Look to His might and praise – extol!
Inward You’ll find nothing but fear,
Outward you’ll see, that He is near.
Faith is assurance of things unseen,
Security are things on which you lean.
Is He the fulfillment of these to you?
Not just the things that you want to do?
What foundation are you going to lay?
One for your dreams? Or one for today?
Look at the race, you’ve only begun,
Fight the good fight, finish the run!
Do not waver but count it all joy,
Steadily you’re growing, through every ploy.
One step here, another step there,
Rest oh my soul, for He certainly cares!
Faith is not built on what you can see,
But instead on a person who became sin for thee.
Oh what a joy to trust in His name,
The real fear is vanquished, you carry no blame!
Confidence is found in one secure place,
Fixing eyes upward, straight to His face.”
This poem was written in 2014 during a season much like this. It was only a few months before Alex and I started dating, but I was completely unaware of that happening. It was a season that pressed me to look alone to Jesus and these words were an outflow of that dependence. They remind us now of the same confidence we have of the same rock beneath our feet. We count it all joy to find our confidence in the person of Jesus alone!
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
