Day One

Day One belongs to Jesus. He is worthy of our complete trust during this entire journey. We do not know what the future holds, but we know the One who is sovereign over all. Day One is also really hard. My wife is in an MRI machine with our precious Anna. Our sweet Corrie is miles away and not here to distract and charm me with her laughs, energy, and antics. This road is not easy. But faithful is He who has called us; He also will do it. He will make us more like Himself. He will lead us through this. I pray and plead that we come on the other side of this with two beautiful girls present with us in this life. But even more than that, we pray and beg God that the gospel will go forth from our life like a flaming arrow.

These blog posts are not about us. I pray that anyone who reads these will only see Jesus. He is great and glorious. As I sit in a place with so many hurting people, I am reminded of how much hope the gospel truly brings into our lives. People with many different problems and potential outcomes. Only the gospel can offer each of them eternal security and hope. Hope that cannot be corrupted by any test result or illness. I am here not as a visitor, but a fellow sufferer. We share pain, and that allows me a window to share hope. Please pray we can do that faithfully.

Anna is a testimony of God’s grace already. Her heart is beating, and she is so beautiful. We have the chance to be a testimony of God’s grace to each of these doctors. Very few people walk the road that we will choose to walk. This is not due to our own fortitude or greatness but the fact that God strengthens His people for the road He leads them on.

This MRI will confirm the diagnosis that Anna does not have any kidneys. This will enable us to talk with specialists about what to do going forward. That meeting with the specialists is also today. Pray for wisdom and the Lord to lead us. Pray for Anna’s heart to be strong and for her lungs to develop. Pray that the MRI shows good news about our daughter. Jesus Christ is completely faithful. We are asking exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think for Anna and ready to trust God and walk this path for His glory. We would be honored if you would do that with us.

I pray that this journey may encourage you. God knows you and loves you. If you are a follower of Jesus, He will work everything for your good and His glory. Trust in Him. Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, so ask boldly. Run to Him, and He will provide for you. As Oswald Chambers said, “When we choose deliberately to obey Him, then He will tax the remotest star and the last grain of sand to assist us.” I know God will do that for us, and I know He will do it for you.

If you do not know Jesus, I cannot urge you enough to consider your life. There is one place for hope, redemption, and life. God is calling you. He is giving you grace and life right now. He came to bear our suffering and pains so we can have eternal relief in Him by His grace. In Jesus, there is the only eternal satisfaction. You were made for Him. Repent and turn to Him. Run to Him.

We will keep posting further updates about Anna on this blog. Please feel free to share as widely as you like! We love all of you in the Lord and pray that you gain more and more of Him every day.
